Research:
Prasanna is interested in theoretical and computational mechanics, with a particular focus on wave propagation and inverse problems. During his PhD, he studied wave propagation in phononic metamaterials, developing reduced-order modeling approaches for complex structures such as rainbow traps and half-spaces. His work aimed to enable efficient analysis and design of these materials for applications including vibration isolation, energy harvesting, and waveguiding. He has also worked on inverse problems involving the characterization of heterogeneous materials from full-field displacement measurements, as part of the DOE Energy Frontier Research Center on Geo-Processes in Mineral Carbon Storage (GMCS). Currently, as a member of the Thevamaran Lab, his research focuses on computational modeling of layered VACNT systems for impact mitigation and analog computing, as well as the development of acoustic metamaterials for sound mitigation and flow control.
